Urban Clinic Jerusalem on Placemaking

The Urban Clinic in the Hebrew University and Eden the Jerusalem Center Development Company, held in September 2016 a two-day seminar on Placemaking processes currently taking place in Jerusalem. During the seminar, we aimed at thinking together how learning from the theory of ‘cities as complex systems’ can inform practice ā€“ and how learning from practice can contribute to theoretical farmings. Dr. Beitske Boonstra from Ghent University in Belgium , was one of experts invited to the seminar. Boonstra’s presentation argues towards a spatial planning that does fit the age of active citizenship. A spatial planning that focusses on conditions that open up, on navigation and on creating consistency between a redundancy of spatial initiatives. And most importantly, a flat ontology of planning, in which there are no a priori differences between the intentions and performed planning behavior.
